A series of FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions). Some topics crop up on a regular basis - to avoid them being discussed repeatedly, a series of web pages is in the process of being compiled for subscribers use. Progress on these can be found on this page - see left for the links.

However, the existence of these FAQs does in no way preclude the newsgroup returning to discuss a previously aired topic - especially if someone has a fresh slant to put.

Yes - there have been a number of "official" ukrw meets and more are planned. Details of past meets and those already planned can be found at the ukrw expedtion site, maintained by Chris Boughay

Walking related web sites

"Where can I find a site with plenty of walking related links?"

Many walking related web sites have links to others sites covering the same topic. "Walking on the Web", listed in the lefthand menu, will give you a good start.

Long Distance Paths

"Does anyone have any experience of walking the ...?"

There are many LDPs in Britain and a large number now have official or unofficial web sites. The LDWA (Long Distance Walkers' Association) site contains general information and links to many 'official' web sites - both long established routes such as the Pennine Way and new routes being developed by local authorities.

The National Three Peaks Challenge

"What is the National Three Peaks Challenge?"

The National Three Peaks Challenge involves reaching the summits of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within a 24 hour time limit.

This question is asked regularly in uk.rec.walking and new subscribers may be surprised at the strong feelings such a question may raise. Many subscribers have objections to the Challenge and it is as well to be fully aware of these before raising the matter.

Keeping tabs on a web site

A common problem with any sites you may have bookmarked is knowing when they have changed. An easy way to deal with this is by using a URL-minder robot. You can register as many sites as you like and you will be informed when changes are made, the site moves or becomes inactive. The only problem I have discovered is with the odd URL which is too long. For this FREE SERVICE follow the links from Netmind. I believe this service is no loner in operation so am looking for a new one.
